The best thing you can do to protect your family from a home invasion is to be well prepared for it.

The first thing you should do is set up a neighborhood-watch, if there isn’t one already. Get to know your neighbors. They are your first line of defense in a home burglary.

Finally, know your escape routes and your potential plan of action. If you don’t own a firearm, get one and teach your family how to use it. This is important. You must be comfortable using a firearm in a non-emergency setting to be prepared to use it in a true emergency.
