We must recognize that bullying has become an international epidemic, no longer restricted to children and teens, but also effecting people of all ages. Statistics now prove that many child and teen bully’s carry these behavior traits into adulthood, often resulting in cyberbullying, and even violent criminal tendencies.

As parents, we must learn to recognize the difference between attractive, positive, and assertive behavior, as opposed to more negative and intimidating behavior traits in our children. We must discipline and teach accordingly when we see negative tendencies in our children, and we must also learn to be alert to symptoms of victimized children, teens, and even adults. The whole story can be found at http://www.education.com/reference/article/cyberbullying-assessment-high-school/ Because the seriousness of this issue has escalated so rapidly over recent years, information, booklets, and other recourses to help teach us to recognize, prevent, protect ourselves, and fight bullying are offered at many schools, libraries, and even some law enforcement agencies. There are also numerous on line sites devoted solely to teaching us to detect and deter bullying.

As a civilized society, we must all make greater efforts to discourage domineering mannerisms in those around us. We can help protect ourselves and our loved ones by taking a stance of ‘zero tolerence’ toward all levels of bullying.

Having a child that is being bullied by a peer can be heartbreaking for parents because you feel helpless. Being bullied is not part of growing up or part of the school experience. A child that is bullied by their peers begin to feel that they are not good enough, and may feel like they don’t fit in. These types of feelings can be the beginning of depression for the child, which can lead to them not wanting to live if this is what they have to live through. Being bullied can and has caused children to think that the only way to escape it is to take their own life. If your child is being picked on or bullied at school it is up to you to protect them by going to the school and talking to school administrators, meet with the bully’s parents, and discuss what needs to be done to stop this. If you can’t get anywhere with the school or the parents, there are other things to do to keep your child safe. Go to the police department and report the bullying. You can get a restraining order for the child doing the bullying and in some cases bring charges against them for what they have done. You have to help your child before your child is gone.

Choosing the right attorney to deal with your situation can be extremely difficult. You want to find an attorney who will work hard to make sure justice is served. You also want an attorney who will make sure that your best interests are protected. Here are three traits to look for before choosing an attorney:

Honesty: Honesty is the foundation for any trusting relationship, including a lawyer-client relationship. If your lawyer is not honest with you then you will not feel safe and be able to share your personal information with him. Therefore if any falsehoods are discovered by you early on in the business relationship, fire your attorney at once.

Integrity: Integrity as it relates to an attorney is using his law of knowledge to perform services that are within the realm of good and decent moral value. Telling lies about other people involved in the case, taking bribery, and not living up to promises are examples of an attorney’s lack of integrity. Those without integrity must be dismissed at once.

Compassion: compassion is what drives an attorney to work extra hard for his client to make sure proper compensation is given. Attorneys with compassion care about people and should be hired.

Protecting your family from an intruder is a scary thought. Though many of us would like to think that we can rely on the police to protect us, the reality is that we can’t always trust the authorities to be there when we need them. The best thing you can do to protect your family from a home invasion is to be well prepared for it.

The first thing you should do is set up a neighborhood-watch, if there isn’t one already. Get to know your neighbors. They are your first line of defense in a home burglary.

Next, install a burglar alarm. There are many good burglar alarms to choose from. Expensive does not always mean better; purchase and install an alarm you can afford. I found the cheapest and most effective burglar alarm to be a dog. homesecurity101.com has an excellent selection of alarms to choose from.

Finally, know your escape routes and your potential plan of action. If you don’t own a firearm, get one and teach your family how to use it. This is important. You must be comfortable using a firearm in a non-emergency setting to be prepared to use it in a true emergency.

America is becoming a safer place. One would speculate that in a declining economy, we would see a trend of increasing crime rates. However, data released directly from the FBI has concluded that crimes in this country are being committed less frequently than previously reported to authorities. The decline in crime rates at the end of 2010 continue the trend of a 3 year drop in crime. The FBI has officially reported the national crime rates of violent crimes at the end of 2010, were down by 6.2 in comparison to the previous year, 2009. The violent crime category this number refers to includes offenses such as homicide, forced rape, robbery and aggravated assault. Crimes committed in the category of property crimes, are decreasing as well. Property crimes have decreased by 2.8. These types of offenses include burglary, larceny-theft and auto theft. The crime of arson has decreased by 14.6 when compared to the previous year. These numbers were released in the FBI’s Preliminary Semiannual Uniform Crime Report. This is a report that is based on numbers and statistics from agencies all over the nation, which were voluntarily contributed. The data collected from those agencies have proven the national crime rate is declining each year, for the past 3 consecutive years.

The statement information is power: understanding crime in your neighborhood is very important. Education is important in most aspects in life and is certainly important in understanding neighborhood crime. The first step to understanding how to prevent crime in a particular neighborhood is learning why there is crime there in the first place. Understanding who is committing the crimes and how they can be aided to live a better life will improve any neighborhood in multiple ways.

People also need to be taught on how to protect themselves from crime. Neighborhood crimes are often committed on people who cannot protect themselves or are forgetting some basic safety steps. Providing everyone in the neighborhood with the proper information will empower them to make the right safety decisions, and hopefully start preventing crime from happening. It is also extremely important to educate children on how to protect themselves from crime, but also what most likely will happen to them if they start a life of crime.

Communicating as a neighborhood and teaching each other how to stay protected, what to look for, and how to prevent crime is important. This will empower neighborhoods to combat crime by learning all of the important information.

In today’s world, protecting your family can be a major concern. The numbers of violent acts and break-ins are staggering and are steadily rising. To understand why things are getting so bad, you have to look at the way things are. There are more and more people who are losing their jobs, losing their homes, and just struggling to support themselves and their families. Unfortunately, there are many people who will turn to crime in order to get what they need.

For you and your family, you will have to take a stand against crime and show people that they cannot just take what they want. Take every measure possible to protect yourselves. Security systems are a great way to do just that. This will enable you to protect your home and your family as well. However, how do you protect your family when they are not at home? The best protection against crime away from home is simply prevention. Prevention lies in education.

Teach your children what to do, and know yourself what to do. Remember that there is less likely to be an occurrence when you are traveling in numbers. Keep cell phones and give them to your children.
Pepper spray is also another option in most states. There are ways to stay protected inside and outside of the home.

My husband and I recently had a security system installed in our home and when the technician was there he commented that while the service we were securing was critically important for protection, he also commented that the fact that we had a doggy door was an important element in deterring crime, as well. He said that statistics have shown that when burglars are casing would-be properties they definitely take note if there is a doggy door; and if so, they typically just “pass those houses by.” With that said, I should point out that the doggy door we had was for our two golden retrievers, and as anyone who knows the breed will attest, they’re more likely to lick intruders rather than keep them at bay. Still, would-be burglars don’t really know the breed that could come bounding out from the doggy door; they just know the potential for an attack (or at a minimum, a heck of a lot of noise). But if you’d like to be better armed than we are with our golden retrievers, you might consider some breeds that are more noteworthy for their guarding and protection abilities. Some of the more common ones include Dobermans, Rottweilers, and German Shepherds; but some less common breeds you might consider include the Ca de Bou, Tosa Inu, and Boerboel. In the case of any guard dog, however, the critical element is an intimidating appearance and low vocal range. But as far as a house pet, you should also make sure the breed you select has “trainability” on the top of their breed’s list of qualities since anything less could prove more problematic than it is beneficial. Also, when it comes to your specific geographic locale, check to make sure that any breed you select is not listed in local jurisdictions as a “weapon” since some breeds are and the laws governing the possession of such a breed are strictly enforced. With all of this said, however, remember that the doggy door is as critical in deterring crime as any breed selection so get that installed, too!

There is one place, that about all others, you should feel the safest; your home. Break-ins and resulting theft are terrifying occurrences. Furthermore, there are risks of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning, too. One company that protects families from danger is ADT.ADT offers five different home security systems. Whichever device you choose for your home, ADT guarantees they’ll be on guard every hour and every day of the week. After-all, they’ve been in the business for over a century, which means they’ve perfected their security measures. For burglary protection, a popular ADT package is the Safewatch QuickConnect. The product comes equipped with comprehensive safety devices: such as a wireless motion detector, a control panel, 2 wireless sensors (for your windows and doors) and a keychain remote. However, the company’s best selling product, and also a Consumer’s Digest best buy, is the Crictical Conditions package. For comprehensive protection, the Critical Conditions option is your safest choice. Alongside your control panel and sensors, you’re provided with a smoke detector and a flood, temperature or carbon monoxide detector. But while several of the devices in the QuickConnect package are wireless, Critical Conditions offers hardwired equipment.Whichever device you choose, all ADT systems are equipped with a 24 hour battery; so even when you’re left without power, your security system is still in effect. ADT products provide the best protection for your home.
